The Chamber of Accounts Became a Member of the INTOSAI Working Group on Extractive Industries Audit

The Chamber of Accounts of the Republic of Uzbekistan has officially been admitted to the INTOSAI Working Group on Extractive Industries (WGEI).

This decision was announced in an official letter sent by the Auditor General of the Republic of Uganda and Chair of the INTOSAI Working Group on Extractive Industries Audit, Mr. Edward Akol.

The Working Group highly appreciated the initiatives of the Chamber of Accounts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at developing audit practices in the extractive industries sector, strengthening institutional capacity, and introducing international experience.

For reference: the INTOSAI Working Group on Extractive Industries is considered one of the prestigious international platforms focused on improving audit effectiveness in the extractive sector, implementing international standards and advanced practices, and enhancing cooperation on pressing industry issues.

The Working Group was established in October 2013 during the 21st Congress of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INCOSAI) held in Beijing, China.

The Group was created in response to global needs arising from the technical complexity of the sector, the necessity for capacity building, the development of specialized personnel, and research findings identified by Supreme Audit Institutions in auditing extractive industries.

The scope of the Group’s activities covers oil, gas, and solid minerals.

It was noted that the participation of the Chamber of Accounts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Group would be beneficial for both sides. Membership will enable the Chamber of Accounts to study modern trends in the extractive industries sector, global challenges related to strategic minerals, and reassess the role of Supreme Audit Institutions in these processes.
