A new chapter in the history of relations between the Supreme Audit Institutions of Uzbekistan and Hungary

On March 26 of this year, a delegation led by the President of the State Audit Office of Hungary, László Windisch, arrived in Uzbekistan for an official visit.

The purpose of the visit is to exchange experience in the field of external state audit and to define promising areas of cooperation between the institutions.

For reference: The State Audit Office of Hungary is the supreme financial control body under the National Assembly (Parliament) of Hungary. It was established in 1870. It is a politically and professionally independent institution and a member of the Governing Board of international organizations such as INTOSAI and EUROSAI.

Bilateral cooperation was initiated in 2024 in Budapest. During that visit, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Supreme Audit Institutions of Uzbekistan and Hungary.

Additionally, a Consultative Council of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Uzbekistan and Hungary was formed, with an agreement to hold its first meeting in Samarkand.

It is worth noting that this is the first visit of a head of a European Supreme Audit Institution to Uzbekistan. During the visit, the delegation led by László Windisch visited the Accounts Chamber and participated in a roundtable discussion on “Transformations and Digitalization in the Accounts Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan.” The Hungarian side closely familiarized itself with the activities of the Remote Monitoring Center of the Accounts Chamber.

The delegation was presented with information on ongoing transformation processes in digitalization and the use of information technologies in the audit processes.

During the visit, László Windisch also held bilateral meetings with the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, T. Narbayeva, and the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber, N. Ismoilov.

At the meetings, the long-standing friendly and fraternal relations between Uzbekistan and Hungary, as well as the historical significance of the relations between the peoples of the two countries, were emphasized.

László Windisch noted the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, the policy of good neighborliness, and the country’s open and pragmatic foreign policy at the international level. Special attention was also given to the prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two states.

Strategic relations between the two countries, developing through the efforts of the leaders of Uzbekistan and Hungary, and their future prospects were also discussed.

As part of the visit, the delegation also visited the central office of “Ipoteka Bank,” which is supported by investment from Hungary’s largest commercial bank, “OTP Bank”.

Representatives of “OTP Bank” in Uzbekistan highlighted the favorable investment climate and the stable pace of economic growth in the country.

The visit of the Hungarian delegation to Uzbekistan is ongoing.
